French filmmaker Noah Nuer's first feature Get a Way is "a disarmingly breezy yet grounded [film], with nary a false emotional note." (Variety). Nuer built his reputation on numerous short movies and nationally broadcasted documentaries. His directing capabilities are significantly enhanced not only by his experience as a DP, editor, and even glidecam operator, but also by his role as producer at Baleine Sous Caillou Productions and as trainer and consultant for Learning as Leadership.

"Born in Canada, I moved to France when I was 3. Even though my passion for cinema started very young, I first went to business school to learn to build and manage projects, and to go through the fears that prevented me putting my dreams into action.

The Goal is in the Path

My studies led me to spend 5 months in Asia and 7 in New York. I studied hard but never lost touch with my passion: filmmaking.

Finally I indulged· documentaries, advertisements, short movies. A few years of photography, editing, assisting and, of course, directing. In 1996, I founded my own production company: Baleine Sous Caillou Productions.

March 1999: The Turning Point

I have always had a very close relationship with my parents, especially my mother (Claire Nuer), a designer and facilitator of Leadership development programs, who supported and inspired me. In March 1999, my world collapsed with her sudden death. Injustice, despair, loss. A north star for me, and for so many others, is gone· Her work cannot stop. Her team asks me to become their "orchestra conductor" and to facilitate her personal mastery workshop· I had never done it! I had to find, within myself, untapped resources. First because I had no other choice, and most importantly, because I was not doing it for myself·

I have landed in San Francisco, travelling all around the United States, even to an offshore oil platform! I support senior management teams, academics, families, teenagers· seminars, in-house training programs, coaching· Despite a schedule like a dot.com startup executive, I never lose sight of my passion : making movies !

A Challenge is Born

In that context I decide to make my first feature film, against all odds. My different teams block off the maximum period of time: 6 weeks to prepare, shoot and edit a first draft in Paris. Needless to say we slept little and a myriad of film-threatening problems became surprising opportunities· An incredible experience, far outside my working comfort zone and what I thought was possible. "
